Hiker Hunger Prep

It begins…grocery shopping for the hike. We eat fairly healthy (for the most part) so scouring Costco for the junk food with the most calories was quite the field trip! We giggled as we went back and forth, up and down the isles, comparing calories per servings. Fellow shoppers probably thought we were insane or a very unhealthy couple!

As we dream about our hike it’s impossible to imagine what our appetites and taste buds will crave. It’s like a game figuring out what future Quade and Stefani might possible want! Along with flavors we’re consciously choosing foods of different textures so chewing doesn’t get repetitive and boring.

Our first grocery trip a few weeks back was only a taste of what is to come as we stalked the sales at a local grocer going out of business. Pastas, rices, meat packets, jerky…were able to supplement a variety of dishes. For as much food as we’re going to eat it’s important for our budget to choose wisely, and what’s better than a store clearing out it’s inventory!?

Over the next couple weeks we’ll start constructing our intended resupply boxes with our meals. We are planning on a hybrid of sending ourselves supplies and resupplying in towns, so we are able to switch things up as our tastes and needs evolve.
