I began sanding the boat the other day (took me a while to write this) and the progress was not fast.
I started about 1/3 of the way from the bow on the hull section and worked forward. With 80 grit paper I got a 12" x 18" section down to the glass then moved forward to the patched area. At first I thought I could sand through the patch, but that didn't work.I was going to leave the patch on and just feather the edges but it was flaking off in some spots so I had to get out the putty knife and start peeling. After about an hour and a half I managed to get most of the patch off but it was getting dark so I had to quit. There were some pretty bad spots under the patch, in some places the glass was only one layer thick, or no glass at all, just resin! On the tip there was also a big blister where water had gotten between the layers. I hope I don't find too much of this since it's a killer to fix them. |
